Instead, the 59-year-old host of HBO Max's "Conan Without Borders," surprised the restaurant by returning Monday, March 27, to New Haven's Sally's Apizza.
"Our amazing manager Rylan turned away Conan O’Brien because we were booked for the day," the restaurant said on Facebook. "Word quickly got around the restaurant Conan had been spotted out front and turned away. A regretful Rylan ran up and down Wooster Street looking for him but it was too late."
Not a day has passed that the team has let her live it down.
On Monday, Rylan got her redemption when O'Brien showed up again. And, yep, he was shown a table right away.
O'Brien, who grew up in Brookline, Massachusetts, and attended Harvard University, visits the area while his daughter is attending Yale University.
While at the restaurant, known for their awesome pizza, O'Brien posed for photos and signed pizza boxes, saying the pizza "was the best ever!"
Sally's a favorite with locals and college students, was opened by Salvatore “Sally” Consiglio in 1938.
"We hand-craft authentic New Haven pizza in custom-designed ovens, using the original recipes," the restaurant says on its website.
"Famous for our distinctive tomato sauce and chewy, crispy crust with an iconic oven-kissed char, Sally’s draws pizza fans from around the world," the eatery added.
Besides New Haven, Sally's can be found in Stamford and Fairfield with new restaurants coming soon to Norwalk, Wethersfield, and Newington.
